The Silent Patron: Supporting Authors Through Your Library

When people think about supporting authors, they often think about purchasing books, attending events, or leaving reviews. While those things certainly help, there is another powerful way to support writers that many readers don't realize:

Requesting books through your local library.

It costs nothing, helps libraries expand their collections, and introduces stories to readers who may never have discovered them otherwise.

A Discovery in the Stacks

Recently, I searched the catalog of the Cuyahoga County Public Library system to see whether one of my novels had found its way into the collection.

To my surprise and delight, Reality’s Endgame: The AI Insanity Show was not only available through the library—it was already checked out.

Every available copy was currently on loan.

As an author, there are few moments more rewarding than knowing readers are actively borrowing and engaging with your work.

Libraries have always played an important role in connecting readers with stories. They allow readers to explore new ideas, discover new authors, and take chances on books they might not otherwise encounter.

The Power of the Public Library

Libraries are one of the few places where literature remains accessible to everyone, regardless of budget.

They help readers discover books across every genre and subject, from literary fiction to speculative worlds like Augmented, fantasy adventures such as The Banished, and psychological science fiction like Reality's Endgame.

What many readers don't realize is that libraries often pay close attention to patron requests when building their collections.

Request a Book You Want to Read

If your local library doesn't currently carry a book you're interested in, most systems offer a "Suggest a Purchase" or acquisition request form.

Submitting a request is a simple way to support both readers and authors.

For authors, a single library purchase can introduce a book to dozens—or even hundreds—of readers over time.

For communities, it expands access and helps ensure a wider variety of voices and stories are available on library shelves.
